Coromandel Express Accident news

Balasore: At least 132 people were injured and several feared dead as Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga station in Odisha's Balasore on Friday. As per the latest updates, the injured passengers have been shifted to Soro CHC, Gopalpur CHC, and Khantapada PHC. Giving details, Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said NDRF's first team of 22 members from Balasore Railway Station (BLS) has already reached the site and another team from Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) of 32 members started half an hour before. In the meantime, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the state minister Pramila Mallik and Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) to reach the accident site immediately. Minister and SRC are heading towards the incident place. Several Trains Cancelled: Several trains were cancelled while some were diverted in the section affected by the train derailment in Odisha's Balasore district. According to preliminary reports, at least four coaches of the express train derailed at Bahanaga station after ramming into a goods train standing at the station. Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Satyabrata Sahu has directed the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) team at Balasore to proceed to the spot immediately for search and rescue operations. For the rescue operation, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Odisha along with senior officers Hemant Sharma, Balwant Singh, Arvind Agarwal, DG Fire Services have been sent to the spot to supervise arrangements for relief operations after the train accident at Bahanaga. In the meantime, various medical colleges and hospitals in and around Balasore are put on alert.

Odisha Train Accident: A delegation from Bengal's state administration is traveling to Odisha in the aftermath of the Coromandel Express tragedy. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself is in constant touch with both the railways and the government of Odisha. 

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, tweeted...

"Shocked to know that the Shalimar-Coromondel express,  carrying passengers from West Bengal,  collided with a goods train near Balasore today evening, and some of our outbound people have been seriously affected or injured. We are coordinating with the Odisha government and South Eastern Railways for our people's sake. Our emergency control room has been activated at once with numbers 033-22143526 and 22535185. All-out efforts for rescue, retrieval, aid, and assistance were initiated.  We are sending a 5- to 6-member team to the spot to cooperate with the Odisha government and railway authorities and to assist rescue operations. I am monitoring the situation personally with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers."

Today in Odisha, a significant accident involving three trains—two passenger and one freight—took place. According to reports, two derailed trains collided, sending many carriages careening into one another. The tragedy left 400 people injured and 50 dead till now. 1. In the Balasore district, the accident happened about 7:20 p.m., close to Bahanaga Bazar station.
2. According to Amitabh Sharma, a spokesperson for the Railway Ministry, the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast struck the derailed bogies of a few coaches of the Coromandel Express that had collided and fallen onto the opposing track.
3. According to multiple reports, there were several people trapped underneath the derailed carriages, and the community was helping rescuers.
4. According to officials, the injured were being rescued by 60 ambulances and four units of the ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force).
5. According to a railway official, a 32-member NDRF team began their journey from Cuttack, while a 22-member team arrived at the accident scene from Balasore.
6. Following the accident, at least 13 trains were changed, cancelled, or terminated.

7. The disaster upset Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claimed he called Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to assess the situation.
8. According to sources, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered Revenue Minister Pramila Malik and Special Relief Secretary Satyabrata Sahoo to hasten to the accident scene.
9. Bengal is sending a team headed by a minister to the scene to assist casualties, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
